The Story

On the eve of World War I, fifteen year-old Anka (Dana Droppova´) arrives in Prague to work as a maid for a wealthy family. Dislocated in this considerably privileged, repressive and particularly demanding environment, Anka struggles to find her place. But her position is bolstered when Anka befriends Resi (Radka Cadlová), the daughter in the noble family, and this relationship is at the heart of The Chambermaid.

Dressed in silk and linen and set in painterly landscapes, The Chambermaid is a beautiful-looking period drama that is carried by a narrative that bursts with passion and sensitivity. Portraying a kind of romance which was strictly forbidden, The Chambermaid creates a period story that is emotionally dense, thematically rich, and unavoidably touching.

A ticket to the Opening Night Melbourne includes a drink upon arrival with nibbles, live music and a dance performance from Liptár Folk Dance Group.

The event starts at 6.30 pm, screening at 7.30 pm.
