“Superbly acted and sharply written, this impressive feature debut from Lilja Ingolfsdottir casts a perceptive, empathetic eye over the messy business of breaking up.” – Screen International

Anchored by a powerful lead performance from Helga Guren, this debut feature from Lilja Ingolfsdottir and from the producer of The Worst Person in the World, which The Hollywood Reporter calls “a worthy contemporary successor to Paul Mazursky’s An Unmarried Woman” is a frank portrait of a woman on the brink of unravelling, discovering who she is and what she needs in the wake of a romantic tragedy.

Maria strives to balance parenthood and a demanding career while her second husband, Sigmund, frequently travels for work. The spark of romance and desire begins to strain as their competing needs take their toll, and their marriage unravels. After Sigmund asks for a divorce, Maria is forced to confront deep fears and unconscious memories from her own past, and is propelled into a torrent of grief and white-hot rage. Guren portrays Maria’s journey with gusto, pushing her anger and self-loathing to the forefront, and finding humanity and redemption in her messiness.
