“A delight, and a film which cleverly picks apart the clichés of the timeworn artist biopic.” — Little White Lies
In a last-ditch mission to get recognition for her talent, Audrey a non-conformist, forgotten artist (Monica Dolan) persuades her psychiatric nurse Sandra (Kelly MacDonald) to take her on a road trip for an apparent retrospective exhibition of her work – but with so many deviations, mishaps, breakdowns and pitstops along the way, the increasingly stressed out Sandra begins to wonder if they’ll ever make it?
Acclaimed writer-director Carol Morley (The Falling, Dreams of a Life), has created a dark and funny exploration of the growing friendship between two very different women as they hit the road looking for endings. Part road movie and part buddy-comedy, the film effortlessly shifts from tender social commentary to fantastical magical realism filled with humour, vivacity and adventure, proving it's not the destination but the journey that matters.
