The Story

Building on from their sold out February residency at Southside, Jonathan Skovron, Simon Starr, Tony Hicks and Ella Holcdorf are “Yoni Giraffe" - four musicians who perform music from  the legendary Israeli children's album The 16th Lamb - "Hakeves Hashisha Asar". This album, rated the 10th most important Israeli recording of all time in any genre, combined the omnipotent powers of a variety of then-young lions of Israeli culture - Yoni Rechter, Yonatan Geffen, Yehudit Ravitz, Gidi Gov and David Broza, in a musical performance for children that inspired, provoked and amused all who saw it, without condescension. It’s universal appeal and highly sophisticated music and lyrics have made it a timeless Israeli cultural artefact, still known and performed all over Israel and throughout the Jewish world where many of its songs have become standards. They contextualise the songs, as well as adding three part harmonies and jazz arrangements to other iconic Israeli songwriters’ songs of the 70s such as Shalom Chanoch, Yehudit Ravitz, Matti Caspi and Shlomo Artzi.
